How
It All Started
Three generations removed from the days of mules and plows, Charlie Collins and Chris Howard formed Baypole Outfitters, located in Grady County. Chris, with a degree in biology, and Charlie, whose degree is in business, graduated from Valdosta State University and returned to rural South Georgia to make their living on the land as did their grandfathers and greatgrandfathers.

Today,
the echoes of previous generations words, “The good Lord’s not making any more land,” prompt Chris and Charlie to toil from dawn to dust, plowing and planting, cultivating not cotton and peanuts but oats and sunflowers for wildlife. They are restoring and preserving wildlife habitat in South Georgia to a time when the lilting “bob- bob-white” call
was familiar to plantation visitors and farm owners alike. |
